Villages Market
Markets or fairs are part of the genetic code of the mountain villages of the massive Gralheira. For centuries, in a context of economic livelihood, the markets were the opportunity for farmers serranos sell part of their crops or livestock, establish business contacts, reviewing old friends from other villages and interact with music that broke spontaneously, simply by a concertina, fiddle or a pair of voices more or less tuned to a lively evening.
In recent years, and despite the mountain continue to agricultural production, markets, villages were gradually disappearing, which may be explained by the nature of self-sufficiency of agriculture and the fact that today’s (opinion) no need to sell this production, since most families hold other sources of income other than agriculture.
We think it is time to return to the markets saw. In this sense will emerge from the May 2010 Market Villages: once a month from spring to autumn, a village other than the massive Gralheira host a market where producers serranos have the opportunity to sell their agricultural products, sausages, sweets traditional crafts, etc.., together with a set of parallel activities such as live traditional music, workshops on traditional knowledge, food tasting, hiking and activities for young people.
The Village Market will be a regular meeting place between people from various villages in the mountains (many of which are not known or not seen for many years) and a tourist attraction and further diversifying increasingly offering events in villages and provides opportunity for each to show who comes out the best, their products and their hospitality, perhaps simple but definitely authentic.
